Insurance Companies Partner to Support Local Cookie for Caregivers Program

When life gives you lemons, eat lemon shortbread- the philosophy at McTavish Shortbread, and indeed a great philosophy to live by. McTavish Shortbread, a local bakery based out of Portland, OR has stepped up during the COVID-19 outbreak to provide support and encouragement for America’s frontline caregivers. To date, McTavish Shortbread has sent out 115 cases of cookies to 76 frontline care worker locations. What started as a small local outreach soon exploded into a nationwide cookie craze! Owner Peter Wood explained “Our initial personal investment to this project was 18 cases of cookies, and once we saw the outpouring of requests, we doubled our commitment, which allowed us to send out 36 cases of cookies to caregivers.  Unfortunately, as a small business, we have exhausted our ability to freely sponsor more cookies. Yet, we don’t want to say no to anyone.” That is where The Hartford & Davidson & Associates stepped in to help keep the cookies coming.

One evening, Executive Sales Representative for The Hartford, Jason Torres, was watching the local news that was featuring McTavish’s “Cookies for Caregivers” and he contacted Davidson & Associates to partner and help support this cookie mission. Jason states, “Since this pandemic started, I’ve been trying to figure out a way that I can contribute to others and when I saw the press release for McTavish the idea was created. I thought why not reach out to our agency partner Davidson & Associates and be able to contribute together to one of the Hartford’s Commercial clients. I am so proud that the Hartford empowers me to support my community in purchasing the Cookies for Caregivers.” Once Jason connected with Davidson & Associates owner Tony Johnson, they both sprung into action, contacting Peter and arranging deliveries to Providence Portland Medical Center and Peace Health in Vancouver. “We’re so thankful that insurance carriers like The Hartford continue to be so involved in our Vancouver community. By working together and sponsoring McTavish’s remarkable Cookies for Caregivers program, we’re able support a mutual client and local business in their endeavors to bring smiles to our community, one cookie delivery at a time” says agency owner, Tony Johnson.
